Dr. Hovy,
I presume this beach attire is not *required* for dg.o 2009 attendance, but do let us know.

Hi everyone. I am new here. What do you think about the title?
Hello all, the CFP for dg.o 2010 is ready (see http://www.dgo2010.org/). We invite you to submit a paper in any of the different formats. Hope to see you all in Puebla next year!! I leave you a picture of the Cholula's pyramid, which is located about a mile from the Universidad de las Americas, the main venue of the Conference.
Hello everyone. We are just reloading this site, and soon we'll update the headers so it refers to dg.o 2010. Please join or start conversations about our next Conference. We in Mexico are very glad of having the opportunity of having you here, and we are making our best to have a great Conference. Hope to read you around and see you in Puebla next year. I am attaching for you an image of the "Capilla Real" in Puebla, one of the beautiful places ... [read more]
The Board of DGSNA, the Digital Government Society of North America, has decided that the dg.o 2009 conference, originally scheduled to be held in Puebla, Mexico, on May 18-20, will not be held this year, due to fears raised by the swine flu epidemic. This was a difficult decision to make, and involved extensive discussions and the investigation of various alternatives. We are aware that the annual conference is one of the signal events of the ye... [read more]
Due to the outbreak of swine flu virus, we regret to announce that the dg.o 2009 conference will not be held in Puebla on May 17-20 this year. The conference organizers are investigating the following alternatives: + postponement: holding the conference later this year in Puebla + movement: holding the conference later this year elsewhere + virtualization: holding the conference virtually, via the web + merging with dg.o 2010 or some other DG-rel... Hello all, Since I live here, I forgot to tell you where is Puebla, and maybe more than one is asking it himself or herself. Sorry about that. Puebla is 60 miles to the south from Mexico City. There are few international flights in the local airport, but you can also travel to Mexico City and then take a bus to Puebla. Buses depart every 30 minutes directly from Mexico City airport, cost 170 pesos and it is a 2-hour ride (1 hour to leave Mexico C... [read more]
The dg.o 2009 conference registration site is up. Please register by April 15, 2009 to get the early registration rate.

I'm just arriving home from a nice evening in Downtown Puebla. I went with my wife and kids to a nice show called "Las Noches Poblanas". The show takes place in the "Casa de la Cultura" (Culture House) every Saturday at 7:00 pm, and you can listen, watch and even dance some very nice Mexican Waltzes, music from the Mexican Revolution, and see the "chinas" and "chinacos" dancing some "Jarabes". I did not take my camera, but I found a demo on Youtu... [read more]
San Andres Cholula, a small city that has become part of Puebla Metropolitan area, is the most ancient continuously inhabitated city in Mexico (the city was founded about 500 b.c.). The host University, UDLAP, is in this ancient city, and less than a mile away from the University there is an archeological site with one of the biggest pyramids in Mexico, which is still covered because it has a XVI century church on top. However, archeologists have... [read more]
Another very nice place to visit while you are in Puebla is the city of Tlaxcala in the state of the same name. Although a different state in Mexico, Tlaxcala is only 30 minutes from Puebla and Cholula by car. Downtown Tlaxcala is also full of colonial buildings and typical restaurants. I am posting here a picture of the Saint Francis Convent in downtown Tlaxcala.

Is there any reason not to use the 2008 dgo LaTex format documents for 2009?
Please read our short "Dear Colleagues" letter from Jing and Andrea describing the opportunity to propose pre-conference workshops and tutorials for dg.o 2009. If you lead a successful tutorial, dg.o will pay you $500.
Dr. Hovy,

I was interested to see that you are working on virtual worlds in government - I had started to explore virtual worlds but abandoned it - It seems it's a lot easier to interact with a government agency in a tradition sense. Do you have interesting applications that are better in a virtual world? I hope you submit a paper in this area.
If you are new to the dg.o community, or even if you have been going for years, there are now 17 short videos posted on the YouTube channel at: http://www.youtube.com/user/dgo2009org I invite you to view, comment, tag, embed, & link to these videos as a way of advancing the core identity of dg.o research.
What did dg.o aspire to become?
Another nice place for a family/friends visit around Puebla is Africam Safari zoo. You drive in your car among the free animals first, and in a second section you can walk closer to some others like the kangaroos and wallabies.
This is one of the two patios of the Camino Real Hotel in the heart of Puebla Historic District, and one of my favorite places to have our Poster and Dinner Session.
This is more archival video from past dg.o meetings. In this case, Larry Brandt of the NSF speaks at dg.o 2003 about the role of social science in the Digital Government research tradition and some of the emerging needs of government agencies.
I fixed the weird alignment issue in the dgo2009.org search box that arose from adding multilingual support. Let's use this thread to post additional desiderata and bug reports.
As a part of a continuing relationship between the NSF, the US Fish & Wildlife Service and the eRulemaking Research Group, you can access the corpus of emailed public comments submitted about "Designating the Northern Rocky Mountain Population of Gray Wolf as a Distinct Population Segment and Removing This Distinct Population Segment From the Federal List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife." There you will see a suite of tools for search and ... [read more]

The eRulemaking Research Group's University of Pittsburgh website is moving to UMass: http://people.umass.edu/stu/eRulemaking/index.html There you can find many past dg.o papers and other links of interest.
Crowdvine's Facebook integration allows you to find and connect with people at the dgo.2009 conference. You can even see which of your Facebook contacts will be attending.
Puebla is a metropolitan area rich in history, archeological treasures and Colonial Architecture. I am including in this post a picture from the cathedral and the Saint Michael Fountain in Puebla main plaza.
The dg.o 2009 organizers have settled on Puebla, Mexico for the site of the conference. We plan on making this the most family-friendly digital government conference to date, with exciting field trips and opportunities in the region. For example, courtesy of Google Images: "The Pyramid of the Moon photographed from the top of the Pyramid of the Sun. The stairs on both pyramids begin on a stone structure which is attached to the pyramid, but many ... [read more]
Hi Jing,
Thanks for joining the network. It looks like dg.o 20009 will be the most dynamic and interesting meeting yet! See you there...

I agree. I have put the official dg.o 2009 web site development on the agenda for the July 1 conference call and for now, the Crowdvine is to build our presence/community on the web and the pb wiki is a place for anyone interested in dg.o to create a collaborative work object.
